Take-home pay $1,625.37 per biweekly check in Kentucky.

An estimate from what you entered, using 2026 federal withholding, Social Security, Medicare and state income tax withholding for a Form W-4 (IRS Pub 15-T), plus the state’s disability or paid leave line where it has one. City, county and school district taxes are not included. Not tax advice.

What comes out of a Kentucky paycheck

Short answer: from each Kentucky check your employer takes federal withholding, the two FICA taxes (Social Security plus Medicare), and Kentucky state withholding. Kentucky has a flat rate and one standard deduction for everyone. The state line is easy to predict; the local lines are not.

LineRule for 2026
Federal income taxSet by your pay, pay schedule and Form W-4 (IRS Pub 15-T)
Social Security6.2% until yearly wages reach $184,500
Medicare1.45% of all wages, plus 0.9% once yearly wages pass $200,000
Kentucky income taxA flat 3.5%

From January 1, 2027, the Social Security line stops once 2027 wages reach $192,300.

How Kentucky withholding is worked out in 2026

Your employer does not simply multiply your pay by a rate. It turns the check into a yearly figure, takes off the deductions in the state formula, applies the flat rate and divides back down to one pay period. That is the same method the calculator above follows, for a single filer.

  • The withholding formula subtracts a standard deduction of $3,360 a year before the rates apply.

Local taxes in Kentucky

Many Kentucky cities, counties and school boards charge an occupational license tax on wages. Rates vary by place and are not in this calculator, so a Kentucky check is often a little lower than shown.

Reading the tax lines on a Kentucky pay stub

Pay stubs label the same deductions in different ways. These are the names you are most likely to see on a Kentucky stub, and what each one is.

  • FIT or Fed W/H: federal income tax withheld from your W-4.
  • OASDI or SS: Social Security, 6.2% of your pay.
  • MED or Medicare: 1.45% of your pay.
  • KY SIT or KY W/H: Kentucky state income tax.

Each line has a current amount and a year-to-date (YTD) amount. Landlords and lenders read the YTD column to check that your pay is steady.

Why your actual check may not match

  • Your W-4 (plus any Kentucky state form) may claim a different status, dependents or extra withholding.
  • Health insurance, a 401(k) or an HSA come out before tax and lower the taxable amount.
  • Bonuses and commissions are often withheld at a supplemental rate instead.
  • Once yearly wages pass $184,500, Social Security stops for the rest of the year (wage base).
  • Local taxes that this calculator does not add, as described above.
