Why Uber and other gig apps don't give you a pay stub
Most drivers and shoppers are independent contractors, not employees. The app pays you, but it doesn't run payroll for you. So there's no tax withheld and no classic stub. Instead, you get earnings statements and, at tax time, a 1099 form if you meet the IRS reporting rules for that year.
How to get your Uber, DoorDash, Instacart or Lyft earnings
Each app keeps a history of what it paid you. Download these statements first. They are the numbers your stub should match. Steps inside each app change often, so follow the app's own help pages.

What goes on an Uber or delivery driver stub
| Line | What it means |
|---|---|
| Gross fares or delivery pay | What the app paid for trips or orders, before fees |
| Tips | What customers added. Keep them on their own line |
| Bonuses / promotions | Quests, streaks, peak pay |
| Platform fees | Service fee the app kept, if your statement shows it |
| Net payout | What reached your bank account |
| Pay period | The week or month the earnings cover |
| YTD totals | Earnings so far this year |
As a contractor, no taxes are withheld. On the stub, pick the 1099 option so it shows no withholding.
What you keep as a 1099 driver
Your payout isn't all yours. You owe income tax and self-employment tax on your profit (earnings minus business costs, like mileage). The self-employed page explains the tax in plain words.
What to send with your stub
People who check income often like to see two records that agree:
- your app earnings statements
- bank deposits that match the net payout
- your 1099 forms from last year, if you have them
Weekly or monthly stubs?
If your app pays out weekly, weekly stubs match its statements. A landlord asking for "the last few months" may find monthly stubs easier to read. Pick the period your statements cover.

FAQ
Does Uber give pay stubs?
No. Drivers get weekly earnings statements instead. You can use them to fill in a stub with the same numbers.
How do I get proof of income from DoorDash?
Ask DoorDash support for your payment history. Pair it with your bank deposits.
Can I use gig earnings to rent an apartment?
Many landlords accept gig income if you can show it clearly. Send statements, deposits and a stub that matches them. Ask the landlord what they accept.
Do I pay tax on tips as a driver?
Tips are income. Check the current IRS guidance for any tips rules that apply to you.
What if I drive for two apps?
Make one stub per app, or one combined record with each app on its own line. Either way, the totals should match your statements.
Will the stub show taxes taken out?
No, unless tax was really withheld. Choose the 1099 option and the stub shows none.
