Take-home pay $1,590.78 per biweekly check in Minnesota.

An estimate from what you entered, using 2026 federal withholding, Social Security, Medicare and state income tax withholding for a Form W-4 (IRS Pub 15-T), plus the state’s disability or paid leave line where it has one. City, county and school district taxes are not included. Not tax advice.

What comes out of a Minnesota paycheck

Short answer: from each Minnesota check your employer takes federal withholding, the two FICA taxes (Social Security plus Medicare), Minnesota state withholding, and the MN Paid Leave line. Minnesota has steep brackets for higher earners and, from 2026, a paid leave premium that employers may share with workers.

LineRule for 2026
Federal income taxSet by your pay, pay schedule and Form W-4 (IRS Pub 15-T)
Social Security6.2% until yearly wages reach $184,500
Medicare1.45% of all wages, plus 0.9% once yearly wages pass $200,000
Minnesota income tax0% to 9.85% in 5 brackets
MN Paid Leave0.44% of wages until yearly pay reaches $184,500. Some employers pay it for you.

From January 1, 2027, the Social Security line stops once 2027 wages reach $192,300.

How Minnesota withholding is worked out in 2026

Your employer does not simply multiply your pay by a rate. It turns the check into a yearly figure, takes off the deductions in the state formula, applies the brackets and divides back down to one pay period. That is the same method the calculator above follows, for a single filer.

  • Each allowance or exemption you claim takes another $5,300 a year off taxable wages.

Minnesota tax brackets for a single filer (2026)

Taxable income fromUp toRate
$0$4,7000%
$4,700$38,0105.35%
$38,010$114,1306.8%
$114,130$207,8507.85%
$207,850and up9.85%

Only the income inside each band is taxed at that band’s rate, so moving into a higher bracket never lowers your take-home pay.

Minnesota disability, paid leave and other state deductions

These lines are not income tax, so they show separately on a Minnesota stub. Each one is worked out from gross wages.

  • MN Paid Leave (Minnesota Paid Leave): 0.44% of wages until yearly pay reaches $184,500. Some employers pay it for you.

Minnesota cities do not tax wages.

Reading the tax lines on a Minnesota pay stub

Pay stubs label the same deductions in different ways. These are the names you are most likely to see on a Minnesota stub, and what each one is.

  • FIT or Fed W/H: federal income tax withheld from your W-4.
  • OASDI or SS: Social Security, 6.2% of your pay.
  • MED or Medicare: 1.45% of your pay.
  • MN SIT or MN W/H: Minnesota state income tax.
  • MN Paid Leave: Minnesota Paid Leave.

Each line has a current amount and a year-to-date (YTD) amount. Landlords and lenders read the YTD column to check that your pay is steady.

Why your actual check may not match

  • Your W-4 (plus any Minnesota state form) may claim a different status, dependents or extra withholding.
  • Health insurance, a 401(k) or an HSA come out before tax and lower the taxable amount.
  • Bonuses and commissions are often withheld at a supplemental rate instead.
  • Once yearly wages pass $184,500, Social Security stops for the rest of the year (wage base).
  • Local taxes that this calculator does not add, as described above.
